Jenny worked at the Financial Times for 37 years, so when she decided to call it a day we wanted to ensure she had a retirement cake of equal stature!
In creating the concept, we decided that the cake needed to feature newspapers - so we mocked up three personalised (and very edible) FT headlines, and placed them on the sides of the cake. The pictures we added were from some of Jen’s favourite work functions.
For the actual cake, the top tier is zesty lemon, which is made with fresh lemon zest, lemon juice and extract. The centre is filled with Sicilian lemon curd. The bottom tier is a round 10 inch vanilla sponge cake, filled with genuine buttercream made with the best butter.
Both tiers were baked with the finest ingredients, including local North Leveton Windmill flour, free-range eggs, and skill that comes from baking cakes for over 40 years.
We personalised the cake by adding some of Jen’s great loves – expensive handbags and books - and an edible figure of Jenny on top.
We received fantastic feedback from the guests at Jenny’s retirement party, held in the Financial Times’ boardroom, who loved the cake. There was even enough for some of the staff to have it for breakfast the next day!
